Phil came into the team in February 2004, having been made captain by Lloyd and Nick, because they said he had a "competitive" attitude, following their experience of him during a 'friendly' kick about with the boys during the previous summer. Got his old nickname "Kamikaze", from a nasty habit of wanting to run every time the bowler bowls a - well, every time the bowler bowls, really. New nickname "Austin" comes from his current (2006 as I write) "international man of mystery" style of life, is he in England? In Finland? Thailand? Swaziland?
He can bat and bowl a bit, although you do hear the words "wide ball!!" a tad too often when he's bowling, and he tends to get a little over-enthusiastic from time to time - but he's working on it.
Hopefully he will make it back here after the snows have melted and will be still be turning out for Empire in 2006.
